2009 McCrae Cat Champs PDF Print E-mail

On the weekend of the 7th and 8th of November 2009 Mitch Bayliss and his young crew James Mare competed in the Victorian Catamaran Championships at McCrae YC on the waters of Port Phillip Bay.

The event consisted of 6 races sailed in light winds (5-8kts). 69 Boats competed in total with Mitch and James sailing "The Shadow" managing to finish 28th overall in the mixed fleet yardstick racing. They used the spinnaker throughout the event to good effect, beating the F18 Hobie Tigers across the line on most occasions and beating them on Yardstick. The highlight of the event was a (very) shy reach with both out on trapeze and the spinnaker sheeted on hard... it's nice to overtake some A-Class cats!

It was also a chance for the new Victorian owner of Stingray "It's Magic" Kevin Francis to see how the stingray was set up and how it can perform. (PS. Mitch owes Kevin a day on the water!)
